Committee Services Apprentice – Business Administration
Summary:
Northfield Medical Centre is a GP practice with approximately 12,400 patients. What you’ll do at work:
As a Business Administration Apprentice, you will work within the committee services team. Gaining skills, knowledge and experience of the District Council’s various committees, policies and procedures – as well as working in a political environment.
You’re role will include:
- Support Committee Services Officers within the team in the delivery of day-to-day office functions
- Answer telephone enquiries from members of staff, councillors and the public with assistance from colleagues when required
- Assist colleagues in preparing work programmes/plans, plan and conduct meetings
- Attend and take notes at pre-agenda and briefing meetings with the chairs and lead officers
- Maintain relevant procedures for public meetings with the chairs and lead officers
- Maintain relevant procedures for public meetings and to update procedural notes as required
- Attend face to face evening council and committee meetings, ensuring that they are live streamed on youtube
- Manage meetings under supervision in accordance with the councils procedure rules, constitution and legislation
- Prepare agendas, minutes and other such documents required for committee meetings
- Work flexibly and according to changing government legislation
- Produce accurate and comprehensive minutes/decision notes
- Undertake other duties as required by the Civic & Committee Services Manager
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, one to ones and appraisal meetings
- Undertake a development programme leading to a National Vocational Qualification as part of an apprenticeship
- Actively participate in your own development plan which will be agreed with the line manager/assessor from the training provider
Your day as an apprentice will be varied and dynamic, offering valuable opportunities to develop your administrative skills while contributing to the efficiency and success of the company.

Requirements
Desirable qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade Grade C or 4 or above)
- Maths (grade Grade C or 4 or above)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
Skills
Essential Skills:
- Excellent level of written and spoken English
- Good knowledge of Microsoft
- Willingness to learn
- Some previous experience of being part of a team (through sport, social activities or other interests)
- Adaptability
- Ability to prepare concise and accurate written material
- Ability to communicate clearly both written and verbal
- Ability to work alongside colleagues, councillors and any other stakeholder
Desirable Skills:
- Ability to learn and develop within the workplace
- Experience of public speaking
- Ability to prioritise work and work to deadlines
- It may be advantageous to have a current valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle
Qualifications required
- GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (including Maths and English) or equivalent
- IT literate including knowledge of main Microsoft office software
