Heart of England Training is delighted to celebrate the remarkable apprenticeship journey of Carol Hogan, who has recently completed her Business Administration Level 3 qualification while working with Dalkia Facilities Ltd. Carol’s story is one of confidence-building, professional growth, and the power of learning in a real‑world environment.
Starting the Journey: Choosing the Apprenticeship Path
For Carol, university never felt like the right route — and she wasn’t afraid to explore an alternative. Inspired by a family member’s experience and driven by a desire to gain real, hands‑on experience, she chose to step into the world of apprenticeships.
“An apprenticeship always seemed like a viable option to me… I wasn’t personally sold on the university pathway as I was unsure what degree I wanted to do and how exactly I would utilise it in my future career.”
Instead, Carol wanted the blend of learning and practical experience that only an apprenticeship could offer:
“I decided that the best course of action for myself was to gain industry specific knowledge, viable work experience and earn while I learn… Working alongside experienced professionals… would give me the ability to build professional networks, develop work-ready skills, and improve my confidence and communication skills.”
Learning With Support: The HOET Experience
Throughout her apprenticeship, Carol thrived under the guidance of Heart of England Training’s experienced tutors. She speaks warmly of the support she received, describing her experience as encouraging and empowering.
“During my time at Heart of England Training, I had the support of two great tutors, Donna Parnell and Natasha Chand. I felt that I could approach them with any queries or worries… I greatly appreciate how understanding they both were.”
At HOET, our mission is to provide apprentices not just with a qualification, but with confidence, capability, and the sense that someone is championing their progress every step of the way. Carol’s journey reflects the impact that nurturing and responsive training support can have on a learner’s success.
Growth in the Workplace: Thriving at Dalkia Facilities Ltd
Carol is now an integral member of the EDF London & Southeast Contract Support Team at Dalkia, where her qualification has amplified her professional abilities.
“My qualification has provided me with a greater understanding around organisational structures, project management, regulations, and interpersonal skills – this has benefited me greatly throughout my journey and I believe it will continue to do so in the future.”
Dalkia’s commitment to apprenticeships is longstanding. Carol’s manager, Tracey Hulbert, speaks passionately about the value apprentices bring to the organisation:
“By offering a young person the opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship, they can learn new skills but also more importantly, they get introduced to the work environment… It’s great to be able to watch a young person transition from a pupil to employee.”
Tracey also commented on the positive partnership between Dalkia and Heart of England Training:
“I have always felt involved with the training and have been impressed with the professionalism and dedication shown to my apprentices.”
It is clear that Carol benefitted from a supportive, encouraging employer who values growth and development — a key ingredient in any successful apprenticeship journey.
Advice for Future Apprentices
Now that she has completed her programme, Carol has simple but powerful advice for anyone considering an apprenticeship:
“Always ask questions – no matter if they feel silly… That is exactly how you learn. Also remember that it is okay to make mistakes; everyone does… especially if you’re trying something new.”
When asked if she would recommend an apprenticeship with HOET, her answer was confident and sincere:
“Yes, I would.”
Celebrating Carol’s Success
Carol’s journey is a shining example of what can be achieved through dedication, curiosity, and the right support system. From finding her career direction, to building strong professional skills, to flourishing within her team at Dalkia — she has embraced every opportunity.
Everyone at Heart of England Training is incredibly proud of Carol’s achievements and excited to see where her growing career takes her next.
Congratulations, Carol — and thank you for choosing to learn, grow, and succeed with us.
