From Administrator to Academy Business Partner: Tracey’s Apprenticeship Success Story

“I learnt 100 new things every day!” — that’s how Tracey Mafe describes her transformative journey with Heart of England Training.

Why Tracey Chose an Apprenticeship

After working as an office administrator for seven years, Tracey was promoted to Academy Business Partner at Burton Green Church of England Academy— a role that brought new responsibilities and challenges. Eager to grow into her position and gain a deeper understanding of school business management, she decided to embark on an apprenticeship with Heart of England Training, completing the Level 4 Schools Business Professional Apprenticeship.

“I decided to complete the SBP Level 4 apprenticeship to learn the role as I was doing it and to provide myself with more in-depth knowledge of the position.”

A Journey of Self-Discovery and Support

While Tracey admits the journey wasn’t without its hurdles — her experience quickly transformed when she was paired with her new educator, Heidi.

“This was like winning the lottery! I couldn’t have asked for someone more knowledgeable, understanding and supportive.”

When Tracey faced a family crisis during the course, Heidi’s understanding and flexibility made all the difference, helping her stay on track and catch up when she was able to return.

A Confidence Boost Like No Other

One of the most rewarding parts of the apprenticeship for Tracey was realising just how capable she truly is. Despite initial doubts, her achievements have fuelled both personal and professional confidence.

“I never thought it was possible for me. It has given me so much more confidence in my ability at work and in general life.”

Advice to Future Apprentices

Tracey’s message to anyone considering an apprenticeship is loud and clear:

“DO IT!”
“It is a lot of work, trying to juggle work, life, family and the course — but it is so worth it.”

She encourages others not to underestimate themselves and to embrace the opportunity to grow.

Why Apprenticeships Work

For Tracey, the benefits of apprenticeships go far beyond qualifications. They offer real-time learning, confidence building, and practical, career-focused skills.

“We all need to continue growing and learning, and this is a perfect way to achieve that.”
