From Apprentice to Partner: Jessica Banton’s Journey with Heart of England Training
At Heart of England Training (HOET), we’re proud to support apprentices as they take their first steps into the hair and beauty industry – and sometimes, those apprentices come full circle. Jessica Banton, now a Salon Apprenticeship Partner at HOET, began her career with us as an apprentice. Today, she plays a vital role in helping others start their own journey into the salon sector.
A Career Built on Apprenticeships
Jessica’s connection with HOET goes back to the very beginning of her career. She first joined us as a hairdressing apprentice, completing both her Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications. Armed with the skills and confidence she gained, she progressed to become a senior stylist and even went on to open her own salon.
When the opportunity arose to move into education and training, Jessica knew it was the perfect fit. Having known Rachel, our Training and Development Director, for years, she reached out to discuss her ambitions – and soon after, joined the HOET team.
“HOET supported me as an apprentice, and now I’m proud to be supporting apprentices myself.”
Supporting Apprentices and Employers
In her role as a Salon Apprenticeship Partner, Jessica works closely with both learners and salon owners. She helps to enrol apprentices onto their chosen career paths, guides them through training, and offers advice and encouragement at every stage. For employers, she provides guidance on how apprentices can bring value to their businesses.
“Apprentices bring new energy into salons,” Jessica explains. “They offer fresh perspectives, help businesses grow, and without them, the industry would face a real skills gap.”
Passion for Hairdressing
For Jessica, hairdressing has always been more than just a job. She loves the creativity, the social side of the role, and the positive impact it has on people.
“I enjoy making people feel good about themselves. I’ve built great relationships with colleagues and clients, and it’s such a rewarding industry to work in.”
When asked what makes a successful apprentice, Jessica highlights the importance of attitude: “A positive outlook and a genuine love for the industry are essential. Skills can always be taught, but passion is what drives apprentices to succeed.”
A Supportive Team
Jessica is quick to point out that she’s not on this journey alone. She credits her colleagues at HOET for making her role so enjoyable and rewarding.
“I’d like to thank my manager, Sheila, for being so supportive, Nat who I’ve known for years and love working with, and of course Rebecca, Lauren, and the rest of the Hair and Beauty team. It’s a joy to be part of such a dedicated group.”
