Isabella Scott’s Journey – Level 2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship
For many young professionals, the path to a fulfilling career begins not in a classroom, but on the salon floor — learning, observing, and growing through hands-on experience. That’s exactly how Isabella Scott began her journey in the hairdressing industry.
Isabella recently completed her Level 2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship at My.Lab Hair and Beauty in Bourne, supported by the expert guidance and training delivered by Heart of England Training (HOET) and got a distinction! This is an incredible result, well done Isabella.
Learning on the Job – and Loving It
“I wanted to learn on the job, and earn some money while learning,” Isabella explains. “In college, you only learn set ways — the standard way — whereas with in-house training, you can develop your skills and learn different techniques from a range of stylists.”
Her experience as an apprentice wasn’t just about earning while learning — it was about unlocking creativity, building confidence, and gaining real-world insight that simply can’t be taught in a traditional classroom.
Training That Makes a Difference
One of the key elements that helped Isabella thrive was the tailored support she received from us at Heart of England Training. We aim to champion the next generation of salon, spa and barbering professionals, providing flexible learning with proven success and Isabella is a prime example of this success.
“I had a change in educator at the EPA stage, and I found they had a different approach — which I preferred for my way of learning,” she says. This flexibility and personalised teaching style is part of what makes HOET stand out. With regular visits and a blend of online resources and in-person mentoring, apprentices are given the tools they need to succeed.
Growth on the Salon Floor
Being based at My.Lab Hair and Beauty Limited allowed Isabella to develop both her technical skills and her professional confidence.
“The apprenticeship allowed me to develop myself into hairdressing with more of an understanding — being on the shop floor, rather than being chucked into the deep end,” she reflects.
It’s this gradual, supportive integration into the real world of hairdressing that gives apprentices like Isabella the edge when they qualify.
Advice for Future Apprentices
So, what would Isabella say to someone considering following in her footsteps?
“Do it — you won’t look back”
She also gave a clear thumbs up to the training provider that helped shape her journey: “Yes, I would recommend an apprenticeship with HOET.”
