Daniel Rombach joined Heart of England Training 11 years ago in 2013. He began his career here starting as an Educator in Business Administration and Marketing and has now progressed into his current role which is Math and English lead. Dan began his move into his current role through teaching maths and English a couple of days a week, and as the business grew this became a full-time role.
His main roles include overseeing the functional skills training, GCSE maths and English lessons and ensuring that the resources used are correct, up-to-date and that the delivery of the lessons is of a high standard.
We asked Dan to go into a bit more depth with what he does here at HOET, and he said “I run in-depth data reports every month to measure our pass rates and our deviation against our targets. I also oversee all of the additional learning needs (ALN) and make sure that all the evidence and support is being carried out properly each month.
Alongside his everyday duties he also carries out teaching sessions at many of our Academies to our learners but also does remote sessions for apprentices aswell. He completes staff training for maths and English which consists of showing staff how to use our key systems, how to book in exams, find resources and generally upskilling their maths and English knowledge.
Dan wanted to give his thanks to his manager, Rachel Timms, who is also the company’s Training and Development Director. “She has been my manager for years and she has helped develop me in to my role today.
Dan continued to tell us how Rachel has supported him during the times where he felt that his job role wasn’t as straight forward, whether that be with Ofsted visits or during COVID where the education guidelines were constantly changing.
“Rachel has been brilliant, and I can’t thank her enough for her support”
Quality Assurance is a big part of Dan’s role and something we always trying to improve as a business. Dan is part of the quality team and talks about what this involves for his role, “I complete quality assurance visits through observing a lesson in an Academy and educator sessions online, this is to ensure our teaching is to a high standard.”
We give learners the opportunity to complete their GCSE maths and English if they were unable to pass these in school. These exams take place twice a year and involve a lot of planning which Dan helps plan and organise.
We asked Dan what his favourite part about his job is, he said, “I love it when learners pass their GCSE’s or their functional skills exams as it is so exciting to see how happy the learners are with their results after putting in all their efforts to revise and then patiently waiting for the outcome.”
He also added, “It is great to also look back at data month on month to see the progress we are making as a business with achievement rates and progression.”
Outside of work Dan also has a few hobbies to keep him busy. “I enjoy running and have ran two marathons, I also like camping and building Lego from time to time, I love watching football and spending time with my family.”
Dan finished with why he enjoys working at Heart of England Training
“Heart of England Training are great at investing in their staff. When I arrived, I had no teaching qualifications and I had never worked in any form of education before. Over the years I have developed my skills through completing different qualifications and courses”
