Hubbard Hair is one of two salons owned by Kyle Hubbard in Syston, Leicester the other is a Hairdressing and Beauty salon. Kyle’s journey within the Hairdressing and Beauty industry began when he began his apprenticeship with ourselves at Heart of England Training, completing the Hairdressing qualification with us.

Employer success story

After qualifying as an apprentice through us, Kyle then opened his own salon with just one chair, one mirror and one basin. Now, nine years later he has two salons, one with 10 sections and the other with 5. Kyle went on to add “I now also employ 20 staff, and I have also taken on 3 new apprentices”.

Why should a business take on apprentices?

Kyle discussed with us reasons why he chose to have apprentices within his salon:

  • Beneficial for students to be in the salon with other stylists.
  • Helps with the student learning experience.

An apprentice’s perspective

Kyle has recently had two of his most recent apprentices pass with a distinction which is amazing!

We spoke to them about their experience with us and what their next steps might be.

“I really enjoyed being able experiment with different colours and building up confidence within my job role” Keeley mentioned “The training was always so easy with my educator Jonathon; he was so patient, and he would always help me whenever I needed it”.

We went on to talk to Pheobe, the other stylist at Hubbard Hair who recently qualified with distinction.  Pheobe spoke about her next steps as a stylist and is hoping to develop her skills further by completing her Level 3 qualification.

She offered one piece of advice for someone wanting to complete an apprenticeship “Just go for it, I think that doing an apprenticeship is the best way to learner as its more hand on in the salon, and you learn things a lot quicker.”
