For Oxfordshire County Council employee Joanna Marciniak, undertaking the Team Leader Level 3 apprenticeship with Heart of England Training (HOET) wasn’t just a professional development choice — it was a transformational journey that strengthened her confidence, skills, and leadership capabilities.
Encouraged by her employer to begin the programme, Joanna embraced the opportunity to gain a structured qualification while continuing to excel in her role. Reflecting on why she chose the apprenticeship route, she shared:
“I really enjoyed the whole structure of it. For me it was a good mixture of having to learn the theory and then apply what I had learned in the job… It is a great style of learning and obtaining qualifications.”
A Tailored Learning Experience With HOET
One of the standout elements of Joanna’s journey was the personalised support she received from HOET. The structured, flexible delivery model meant she could work independently on tasks while knowing that guidance was always available when needed.
She explained:
“I was very happy with the whole process being tailored for me and my learning style… Some tasks I could do this with, and others were more complex, so the Educator provided me with additional tools to understand and was always on hand if I needed support or advice.”
HOET’s approach — blending theory, practical assignments, and regular feedback — helped Joanna embed her learning meaningfully into her day‑to‑day work. She added:
“The apprenticeship style of delivery really re‑enforces learning through different resources and learning styles… The whole process embeds the knowledge and allows for easy practical application, skill development and progressive improvements.”
This tailored blend of education and hands‑on experience is one of HOET’s core strengths — ensuring every apprentice receives an individualised journey that works for their job role, learning preferences, and long‑term goals.
Building Confidence and Enhancing Leadership Capability
Joanna’s apprenticeship didn’t just deepen her technical knowledge — it elevated her visibility and influence within her organisation.
For employers like Oxfordshire County Council, apprenticeships offer measurable organisational value: improved staff capability, greater confidence, and a stronger internal leadership pipeline. Joanna’s success is a clear example of how structured development can unlock both individual and organisational potential.
Encouraging Others to Take the Same Positive Step
As a passionate advocate for apprenticeships, Joanna has already inspired her colleagues to explore the pathway.
“A colleague of mine has now enrolled onto an apprenticeship… I really encouraged her to go for it — it’s a great way of learning and continuing your role whilst earning.”
And when asked whether she would recommend HOET specifically, her answer was clear and enthusiastic:
“Of course — I had nothing but a great experience with HOET. I received all the support and resources… Even with internal changes within HOET I didn’t receive any different service — it was all good.”
A Leadership Journey Worth Celebrating
Joanna’s achievement — completing the Team Leader Level 3 and CMI Level 3 Diploma in Principles of Management and Leadership — stands as a testament to her dedication, resilience, and desire to grow.
Her story is a powerful reminder of the difference an apprenticeship can make: boosting confidence, developing new skills, and opening doors to future opportunities.
