Spotlight on Success: Dawn Dilks Completes Management Level 5 Apprenticeship
Dawn Dilks, a dedicated team member at Wolverhampton Council, recently achieved a significant milestone in her career—completing her Level 5 Management Apprenticeship with us. Her journey highlights the positive impact high-quality training and personal development can have on both individual confidence and workplace capability.
Structured Learning and Supportive Tutoring
Reflecting on the training she received, Dawn praised the way HOET delivered a clear, well-planned programme that supported learning at every step.
“The training was well planned and professionally delivered,” she shared. “We were given the topic, syllabus and assessment questions in advance, which gave me the opportunity to prepare. The structure of the day courses encouraged open discussion, offering insights from various industries and perspectives.”
Dawn also highlighted the value of additional research resources provided and the ongoing support of her tutor, describing them as approachable and always willing to help.
Building Confidence and Capability
For Dawn, the apprenticeship was more than a qualification—it was a chance to consolidate her existing skills and demonstrate her strengths.
“The apprenticeship helped pull together my existing skills, knowledge and behaviours, and build on them,” she explained. “It’s given me confidence and shown me what I’m capable of.”
This blend of personal growth and professional development has made a lasting impression on her career and outlook.
Encouragement for Future Apprentices
When asked what advice she would give to someone considering a similar path, Dawn offered reassurance—especially to those returning to education after a long break.
“Don’t be put off by the assessments,” she said. “If you’re unsure, just ask your tutor—they’re there to help. Reading the syllabus and questions ahead of time really helped me prepare and feel more confident.”
An Unplanned Path with Rewarding Results
Interestingly, Dawn didn’t set out to become a manager. “I’m an accidental manager,” she laughed. Originally joining the council on a temporary basis, she found herself drawn to the variety and challenges of the role. “No two days are the same—it’s an ever-changing and interesting environment.”
Having now completed her apprenticeship, Dawn is well-positioned to embrace new opportunities and continue growing in her role.
“I would wholeheartedly recommend HOET as an apprenticeship provider,” she added. “They’ve been brilliant from start to finish.”
