This qualification is made up of an apprenticeship, Business Administration Level 3, and a CMI Certificate in first line management. By completing these two qualifications alongside one another, learners will gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours to complete both administration and leadership tasks.
Apprentices completing this qualification could be new or emerging team leaders, operational supervisors, administrative leads stepping into people management, or someone who manages workloads, systems and priorities alongside others.
As an Apprentice completing this qualification, you will:
- Learn how to plan, organise, and prioritise
- Develop skills in communication and stakeholder coordination
- Contribute to process improvements and support business growth
- Follow compliance and implement equality and diversity
- Meet deadlines and lead others to do so
This Level 3 standard has been developed with leading UK employers including the British Council, Npower, Peugeot, and the Peter Jones Foundation — ensuring your training meets real-world business expectations.
You’ll compile a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your knowledge, skills, and behaviours. From Month 9, you’ll complete a work-based improvement project, that has a focus on management, that will form part of your End Point Assessment (EPA) — the final stage that confirms your readiness for the role.

CMI – Certificate in First Line Management
As part of this apprenticeship learners will complete a CMI Certificate in First Line Management. Apprentices and the employer will choose 3 of the units they will complete as part of their CMI certificate.

- Approaches to Managing and Leading People and Teams
- Stakeholder Communication for First Line Managers
- Professional Development as a First Line Manager
