Meet Shannon Lynskey

At Heart of England Training (HOET), we’re proud to celebrate the people who make a real difference to both learners and colleagues. This month’s In The Spotlight focuses on Shannon Lynskey, an Educator and Team Leader who has grown her career through dedication, development and a genuine passion for supporting others.

Shannon’s Role at HOET

Shannon currently works in a dual role, combining leadership with hands-on delivery.

“I am currently working a split role – four days Team Leader and one day Educator. I have a team of ten members of staff who I support on a day-to-day basis, and then a caseload of learners within the Schools & Business sector.”

Her work spans a range of apprenticeship standards, including Teaching Assistant Level 3, Specialist Teaching Assistant Level 5, School Business Professional Level 4, and Business Administrator Level 3.

This balance of leadership and delivery allows Shannon to support both her team and learners directly, ensuring high-quality teaching and development across the board.

Career Journey: From Apprentice to Leader

Shannon has been with HOET for nearly four years and her journey highlights the progression opportunities available within the organisation.

“I started as an Educator back in August 2022, working with learners completing apprenticeships within the Schools & Business sector. I then moved into the Team Leader role back in July 2024.”

Before joining HOET, Shannon completed her own Teaching Assistant Level 3 apprenticeship—something that gives her a unique perspective when supporting learners.

“When I began, I had not long completed my own TA Level 3 apprenticeship… so it felt like a full circle moment for me.”

Now, Shannon continues her own professional development by completing a Team Leader Level 3 apprenticeship, reinforcing HOET’s commitment to continuous learning at every stage of a career.

Why Shannon Enjoys Working at HOET

A key part of Shannon’s journey has been the opportunity to grow professionally while supporting others to do the same.

“HOET has provided me with various opportunities to further develop myself professionally.”

What stands out most to Shannon is the impact she can have on both learners and colleagues.

“I love being able to watch others grow in confidence, succeed and achieve.”

This passion for development is central to her role and reflects HOET’s wider mission of empowering individuals through education and training.

Supporting a Collaborative Culture

Shannon highlights HOET’s collaborative environment as one of its biggest strengths.

“We have a collaborative culture at HOET, everyone is happy to work as a team, communicate ideas, share resources and best practices.”

She also credits her colleagues for playing an important role in her development:

“I’ve found everyone I’ve worked with at HOET to be supportive and helpful… Ben has supported my development within my Team Leader role, and Gemma and Fleur’s guidance has been valuable.”

Proud Moments and Achievements

Throughout her time at HOET, Shannon has contributed to key projects that enhance the learner experience.

“I’ve really enjoyed being involved with the launch of the STA5 standard and the day course involved, and creating the ‘Supporting SEND in School’ bolt-on for TA Level 3 learners.”

These initiatives demonstrate Shannon’s commitment to improving learning opportunities and supporting learners with additional needs.

Beyond the Role

Outside of work, Shannon enjoys a mix of creative and outdoor activities.

“I love listening to music and reading. When I can, I also enjoy going camping.”

And a fun fact that colleagues might not know:

“I learnt how to sail a boat before I learnt how to drive a car.”

Looking Ahead

Shannon’s journey reflects what’s possible at HOET — progression, development, and making a meaningful impact.

From apprentice to Educator and now Team Leader, she continues to grow while helping others achieve their goals.
