All About Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are real jobs with real employers, allowing you to work, earn a salary and gain valuable qualifications and experience. Apprenticeships offer choice, opportunity, qualifications, support and a head-start into a future career.

Will I have to go to college?
For most apprenticeships, you will receive workplace visits from your Educator as well as remote sessions and, in many cases, virtual day courses. Apart from certain Hair & Beauty apprenticeships, you will not need to attend any of our academies to complete your qualification.

When will I get time to study?
Your apprenticeship will include 20% “off the job” training. Within this will be your Educator visits, remote sessions and day courses, as well as time to complete your assignments, projects and assessments via the OneFile platform.

Will I need a CV?
Most employers are interested to read the CVs (and sometimes covering letters) from potential candidates. Use your CV to convey your personality, your prior experience and attainment, and your written communication skills.

When can I start?
You can apply for, and start, an apprenticeship at any point during the year…not just in September!

What happens afterwards?
What happens after your apprenticeship is very much dependent on the individual employer. Many companies who recruit apprentices aim to provide a permanent role for you at the end of your training. Your salary will increase after 12 months in line with the National Minimum wage or the company’s own salary scales. There are also progression routes, such as enrolling onto a higher-level apprenticeship to build on your existing skills and experience.
