A insight into Team Leader Level 3 Apprenticeship – City of Wolverhampton Council

We work with many local authorities around the UK. The City of Wolverhampton Council being one of them. David Cox, was a recent learner of ours who just passed his Team Leader Level 3 Apprenticeship with us whilst working at City of Wolverhampton Council. David passed his apprenticeship with an impressive distinction, so we wanted to get an insight in to his experience with his apprenticeship.

David mention that he has always been the type of person to improve themselves both personally and professionally and this apprenticeship allowed him to develop his professional careers through this management apprenticeship and grow within his role with the chance to work at a higher level supervising staff. David said “I was able to develop my skills, especially with self-confidence, social skills and communication” David went on to say “These knowledge and skills as well as confidence gained are something that I am able to transfer across into all aspects of my life”

We wanted to dive deeper with David and find out what he enjoyed most about his apprenticeship.

“The main thing I have enjoyed most about my time during this apprenticeship was the day courses, I was really surprised by this as usually I am nervous and intimidated by big groups. However I really enjoyed taking part and learner from different apprentices in other industries and learning from their own experiences.”

We value not only our apprentices opinion but also that of the employers that we work with. Denise Humpage was David’s Manager during his apprenticeship and felt that the Team Leader Level 3 Apprenticeship would really benefit David within his job role. She added that “David has developed a new self-confidence, and the ability to see things differently from a different perspective, I have also noticed that as a result of this apprenticeship his time management has also improved.”

David’s Journey

“I have learned a lot and developed my knowledge, skills and behaviours, both through my apprenticeship as well as the practical hands-on managerial experiences I have been exposed to” David went on to add about his experience with ourselves. “They have been very supportive, helpful, clear and concise. The online day course I have been part of have been very informative, welcoming and encourage you to come out of your shell to take part.”

David was very open with his experience and said that there is a lot of information to take in and can be hard work sticking to the deadlines, whilst also doing your job role. However as Denise mentioned above David’s time management has improved which shows that his hard word and dedication during his apprenticeship really did pay off.

Both David and Denise couldn’t thank Paula, David’s educator during him apprenticeship enough. David added that “She has been excellent, she has helped me develop my knowledge and skills, as well as my confidence. Paula has given me tips and advice when I found difficulty with manging time such as suggesting the ‘pomodoro technique’ and setting ‘SMART’ goals.”

Whilst Denise praised Paula for her own knowledge and helpfulness with David throughout to ensure that David remained on target.

David finished his testimony to Paula with this “Paula has been amazing and I would thoroughly recommend her as an educator if anyone was to undertake this apprenticeship. The fact that I achieved a ‘distinction’ is a testimony to that and part of this is a big thanks to Paula.”

Lastly, we asked David ‘What advice would you give to someone thinking of doing an apprenticeships?’

The journey, although busy in times is very much worth it it, you gain lots of new knowledge and meet and learn from people you wouldn’t normally. This is a valuable experience that I have completed.
