In the Spotlight: Louisa Barby – From Apprentice to Recruitment Coordinator

At Heart of England Training (HOET), we are passionate about helping people grow and achieve their potential. Louisa Barby’s journey is a brilliant example of how the right opportunities and support can shape a rewarding career.

An Unexpected Start to a Promising Career

Louisa first connected with HOET when she applied for what she believed was an apprenticeship position as an Apprenticeship Account Manager. During the interview, our HR Manager, Shannon, recognised her potential and offered her a Business Administration Level 3 apprenticeship instead.

“I originally applied thinking it was an apprenticeship,” Louisa explains. “Shannon mentioned in the interview that they were looking for an apprentice, and after the interview, she contacted me and offered me the apprenticeship. That was the start of my journey with HOET.”

Progression, Support and Personal Growth

Louisa completed her apprenticeship in just 12 months, finishing in December. She then progressed to Business Administrator, and by February, was promoted to Recruitment Coordinator. Now, she’s a Recruitment Coordinator and is studying for her Level 3 Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) qualification.

“Shannon has enhanced my time at HOET massively,” Louisa shares. “She’s been so supportive and really helped me progress into the role I’m in now. I’m grateful she took a chance on me – she believed I was capable, and that’s made all the difference.”

Her current role involves recruiting apprentices and internal staff, managing HR records, overseeing compliance processes, and supporting HOET’s LinkedIn presence.

“No two days are the same,” she adds. “That’s what keeps it interesting.”

Memories, Motivation and What’s Next

One of Louisa’s standout moments at HOET was a charity walk at Scafell Pike.

“It was such an enjoyable challenge and brought the team together,” she recalls.

And outside of work?

“My main hobby is definitely shopping!” she laughs.

We’re proud of Louisa’s achievements and the ongoing contribution she makes at HOET. Her journey from apprentice to Recruitment Consultant is a clear example of how apprenticeships, combined with the right support, can lead to real career progression. It shows what’s possible when people are given the chance to develop their skills in a supportive environment.
