People aged over 24 are joining apprenticeship schemes at an increasing rate!

Figures published by the government show that a higher percentage of apprentices aged 24 or over started in 2019/20, with 47% aged over 25. People in their 20s and older would consider this career move for many reasons, as apprenticeships provide an excellent opportunity to retrain and learn new skills.

With so many different types of opportunities available, it can be a great way to change careers. Morgan Sindall, a leading British construction company, welcomes older apprentices onto its schemes. Sam Millson, HR business partner of the company said: “At Morgan Sindall we have been able to offer new opportunities and progression for over 25’s by offering them the chance to take part in apprenticeships as well as the apprenticeships we offer to early careers.’

‘Our older employees have grasped the opportunity with both hands and have found the additional education and experience blend very beneficial to their development.”

Apprenticeships are also a good way to further a candidate’s experience. By combining work with study, it can help lead towards an academic or professional qualification relevant to their industry. One of the best things about being an apprentice is the opportunity to earn and learn on the job, receiving National Minimum Wage once their first year has been completed.

The rates for the National Minimum Wage change every April. From April 2022, the National Apprenticeship wage will rise from £4.30 to £4.81 an hour.

So, if you’re considering switching a career or want to gain new qualifications an apprenticeship is a good way to gain experience, enhance your CV and earn money!
