Emily Overend, a Marketing and Communications Assistant at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity, managed to get into the top 10 of nominees for the NHS CHuFT Award.

Emily began her Marketing Assistant apprenticeship after finishing University, wanting to gain the experience she needed after the pandemic. She became passionate about her role, and is really glad that she was given the chance to learn whilst helping people.

“I have such a good understanding of Marketing because of HOET and I have been able to progress well within my role” she said “The knowledge and experience I have gained through the apprenticeship are going really well to help me fly in the future”.

When asked how her apprenticeship is going so far, Emily said she “Absolutely LOVES her job!” Sharing their patient’s experiences is her favourite thing to do, as she has been able to learn how to correctly do it, thanks to the apprenticeship.

Emily was nominated for the ‘Rising Apprentice’ category for the NHS CHuFT Awards, a ceremony that gives NHS employees the opportunity to recognise and nominate colleagues who ‘deliver One Culture of Care’. Once the nominations closed, Emily was shortlisted into the top 10 in her category. When she found out, Emily was shocked upon hearing the news.

“I haven’t been in my role for a year yet and really did not expect to be recognised for the hard work I do. I feel honoured!”

“My manager is super supportive” she added “Emma was very happy and proud of me when I told her the news”.

Emily also wanted to give a special thanks to her Educator, Carl Stephens, for being there for her during her apprenticeship.

“He is always there to brighten my day in whatever way he can. I am so grateful for him and wouldn’t have been able to do this without him”

Emily was really glad she went through the apprenticeship with Heart of England Training, feeling that everything was ‘straight forward’, always finding the resources she needed.

“Couldn’t recommend enough, HOET is super supportive and always there when needed”.

When asked what advice she would give to someone doing an apprenticeship, Emily said “DO IT!”

“It is really super helpful, and I believe it helps you to get where you want to be”.

Emily will be attending the evening ceremony of The CHuFT Awards on Thursday 17th November alongside other nominees in their selected categories. Everyone at Heart of Training wishes her a big congratulations and the best of luck for the awards!
